Beyonce Giselle Knowles was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas.
Her Nickname is BEE or JUJU.
Gets Her Start:
The 23 young women began performing at the age of seven.
She participated in dance lessons and was regularly seen having solos in the church choir.
At the age of seven, with her cousin, Kelly Rowland, BEE formed a group.
Beyonce and Kelly’s friends, Latavia Robertson and Letoya Luckett, also joined the group. Bayonet’s father, Matthew, became the group’s manager.
Small gigs later, the four beauties cemented their relationship by calling themselves Destiny’s Child.
First single:
In 1997, the group rocked the music scene with their single, “No No No” from their self-titled debut album.
This was the first official single and they got off to a big start as the track went multi-platinum.
The girls were instantly popular in the media and impressed all with their self-titled debut album.
In 1999, Destiny’s Child released The Writing on the Wall. It sold 10 million copies. The hit singles were “Jumpin Jumpin”, “Say my Name” and “Bills, Bills, Bills,” which spent 9 weeks at #1 on the Billboard R&B singles chart.
LeToya and LeTavia left the group because they had problems.
One year after Michelle Williams joined Destiny’s Child in 2000. The group recorded Survivor, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart.
Survivor was certified double platinum four weeks after its release and has gone on to sell more than 9 million copies worldwide.
Grammy’s:
2001 was a big year for the girls. They won two Grammy’s: Best R&B song and Best R&B performance by a Duo or Group. Destiny’s Child has won other awards among them Billboard Artist of the year, Image Awards, American Music Awards and the Sammy Davis Junior Award for Entertainer of the year.
In 2001 Beyonce won an other Award for POP Songwriter of the year.
She was the first African-American and second woman to ever win this award.
Solo career:
After all this success, the group’s 3 talented sistas decided to try their hands at solo careers before investing their time in another Destiny’s Child album.
In 2001 she starred in MTV’s “Carmen.”
In 2002, Beyonce was Foxy Cleopatra in the Mike Myer’s film: Austin Powers in Goldmember. In October of that years she was featured in boyfriend, Jay-Z’s video:
“ 03 Bonnie and Clyde”.
First solo album:
In June of 2003, she dropped her last name and debuted her solo album, Dangerously in Love. The album became a multi-platinum seller. The cd is a mix of dance, pop and ballads.
It is both sexy and fun. It demonstrates a grown-up Beyonce.
The album features artists such as: Missy Elliot, Jay-Z, Sean Paul, Mark Batson, Mario Winans, D-Roy & Mr B, Big Boy, Rich Harrison, Fanatic, Scott Storch, and Luther Vandross.
Beyonce shares co-executive producer credits on Dangerously In Love with her father and manager Mathew Knowles. She took an active role in all aspects of the album: from writing and choosing material to producing, mastering and mixing the tracks.
The sexy first single, “Crazy in Love” featuring rapper Jay-Z, was co-produced by Beyonce and Rich Harrison.
Also sexy is the dancehall-Arabic “Baby Boy” featuring dancehall King Sean Paul.
The newest video is “Naughty Girl” with an Arabic ambience and its uptempo and party perfect.
In 2003, Destiny’s Child came together once again to record the single “I know” for the film, Fighting Temptations. Beyonce co-stars in this film with actor Cuba Gooding.
Beyonce also appeared on Spike Lee directed Pepsi-Cola Commercials.
She is also the spokesperson for L’Oreal.
