1. Band story
The Dropkick Murphys were formed in 1996 in Boston, Massachusetts. Originally it group with friends (the persons who started the band were Singer Mike McColgan, Ken Casey as bassist, Rick Barton as guitar and Matt Kelly plays the drum). After 1996 they become a well-known Punk Band in the United States. They named them by a hospital in Boston. In 1998 they published a lot of CD`s. After the first CD “Do or Die”, Singer Mike McColgan left the band. The man after him was Al Barr. 1999, after the second CD, ”The Gangs All Here”, Rick Barton left the Band, too. The man ofter him was James Lynch. Short time before the third CD the band was strengthen with Mark Orell, Spicy MacHaggis and Ryan Foltz. Mark Orell is the second guitar player which should help by live concerts to give up a better sound. The fact that Mark Orell plays accordion gives the Folk sites of Dropkick Murphys up. Spicy McHaggis and Ryan Foltz support the band with there play on bagpipe (to German “Dudelsack”) and mandolin. Sometimes Ryan Foltz plays with his Tin Whistle, THE Irish instrument. On the CD “Blackout” you can find a Punk-rock version of the well-known song “Fields of Athenry”, a song which tells about the time when Irish people haven’t got any thing to eat, in the middle of the 19.th century.
2. The Way of music
The music from Dropkick Murphys is a mixture of Punk rock, Irish Volk an Hardcore Punk. There songs speeches about drinking and the effects on this. On there tours they are really family-friendly , there shows are wild, but not dangerous. Instead of a big hunger emergency, many people go from Ireland to Boston. So it explains this, why Dropkick Murphys have so much Irish Volk in there music. The real reason of there music is, that persons should have a good time and much fun.

Walk away
So you fell in love and you’re gonna get married
Raise yourself a family how simple life can be
Somewhere it all went wrong and your plans just fell apart
And you aint got the heart to finish what you started
Yeah, you fell in love and you’re gonna get married
Raise yourself a family how simple life can be
Somewhere it all went wrong and your plans just fell apart
And you aint got the heart to finish what you started
The ones that loved
The one that you left behind
The one you said you’d try to find
Are they trying to find you
The ones that loved
The one that you left behind
The one you said you’d try to find
Are they trying to find you
Somewhere it all went wrong and your plans just fell apart
And you aint got the heart to finish what you started
You walk out that door to find out where you belong
To fulfill your own selfish dreams I think you might have forgotten
The ones that you loved
The one that you left behind
The one you said you’d try to find
Are they trying to find you
The ones that you loved
The one that you left behind
The one you said you’d try to find
Are they trying to find you
Fields of Athenry
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young girl calling
Michael they have taken you away
For you stole Trevelyn’s corn
So the young might see the morn
Now a prison ship lay waiting in the bay
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing we had dream and songs to sing
It’s so lonely round the fields of Athenry
By a lonely prison wall
I heard a young men calling
Nothing matters, Mary when you are free
Against the famine and the Crown
I rebelled they can’t me down
Mow you must raise our child with dignity
Low lie the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing we had dream and songs to sing
It’s so lonely round the fields of Athenry
By a lonely harbor wall
She watched the last star falling
As that prison ship sailed out against the sky
Sure she’ll wait and hope and pray
For a long and bad day
It’s so lonely round the fields of Athenry
Where once we watched the small free birds fly
Our love was on the wing we had dream and songs to sing
It’s so lonely round the fields of Athenry
