Places:
The first part of the novel takes place in Paris. There the characters have their work and they live there. They don’t realy know what to do with their freetime. So they enjoy their lives with party’s and alcohol.
After the half of the book the scene changes to a little village, called Pamplona, in Spain. There the Fiesta is going on. This is a very big event. People from all over the world come to see this spectacle. There are every day bullfights and in the evening nearly everybody is drunk. They celebrate all the time.
Plot:
The Plot starts in Paris where the main characters spend their time with parties, wine, tennis, girls and so on. They don’t know what to do with their time. One day they decides to go to Spain, to Pamplona, where the Fiesta will start. It’s a great spectacle. There are dancers, singers everywhere and the highlights are the bullfights. The star of the fiesta is Pedro Romero, a very young man. Brett falls in love with him when she sees him the first time. They all have a nice time with the bullfights and drinking a lot of wine. But there are also some troubles when Mike gets drunk. When the Fiesta ends Brett leaves witch Pedro. The other characters also leave village whrer the fiesta took place and go backto Paris or anywhere else. At the ending of the novel Jake gets a message that that Brett has left Pedro because he is to young and she could ruin his live.
Atmosphere:
The atmosphere in Paris is okay. They enjoy theit time but ther are no highlights. They do every day the same boring things. They go to work and in the evening to parties.
But then they decide to go to Spain. At first, when Jake and Robert go fishing, there is not so much atmosphere because there are only this two characters and nobody else. But you know that the atmosphere has changed. They can leave their daily, sad work behinde them. And later when they go to Pamplona where the Fiesta starts, there the amosphere gets a highest point. There are so many people from all over the world. There are dancers and singers in every street. All people are very friendly and polite. And the highlights are the bullfights. When you read the book, you know that Hemingway is a fan of bullfights. He describes the atmosphere and all around so good, that you can imagine how a bullfight is, without seeing it.
Tansion between the characters:
At the beginning in Paris there are nearly no bad tension between the characters. They have a lot of fun. But during the fiesta there are some tensions between a few characters. When Mike gets drunk he shouts at Robert and tells him that nobody wants him and he should leave the fiesta and Spain.
One time Cohn calls Jake a pimp. So it comes to a fight. But Jake has no chance against a former boxing champion and so Cohn knocks him down. And also Mike who wants to help Jake. And later he goes to Pedro and knocks him also down because he is the new love of Brett.
But when the fiesta ends there are no longer tensions between the characters.
