Her biography.
Missy Elliott’s correct name is Melissa Arnette Elliott. She was born on 1st July 1971 in Portsmouth Virginia, USA. Now she is 34 years old. She is one of the most successful woman in the hip-hop and rap scene.
She is well known as Missy Elliot, earlier she was called Missy Misdemeanour Elliott. Missy is a very well doing songwriter and producer of hip-hop and r’n’b. Her greatest performance was to liberate the former swearword “bitch” as a positive emancipation context through rap. Many other artists wanted to use the new star on the hip-hop sky for their own aims. This is why Missy composes songs for famous singers... She was working as a songwriter for Aaliyah, Destiny’s Child, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and many more famous people.
The death of her soulfriend Aaliyah hit Missy straight in her heart. Instead of hiding her away and taking a bath in compassion she plunged into work. She assimilated Aaliyah’s death in music and in public.
Right now she is doing a casting show in the USA called “The Road To Stardom”
My fourth point: Her career. Her great breakthrough as singer was the song “Supa Dupa Fly” in 1997 when she was 26 years old. Later she got more and more famous through many other songs. One of them was “Get Ur Freak On”. This hit filled up all dance floors in the club’s from Greenland to Australia. Just listen to it...
Let’s go further to the awards. The “New Music Express” appointed the song we just listened to as the best single track in 2001. She lived her dream and did one goal after the other.
Missy won many awards:
· the Grammy Award 2001 for performance of “Get Our Freak On”
· the Video Music Award 2003 for her work
and not to forget the MTV Music Award this for the film 1.2 Step, performed by Ciara. To get awarded platinum records she must be used to.
An important point was the foundation of the label “The Gold Minds” with her school friend Timbaland. Later she featured a rap in Gina Thompson’s show “The Things you do”.
Missy Elliott did not only work as a singer and songwriter, there were many other achievements. She also worked as an actress: She has acted in the films Pootie Tang in 2001 and Honey in 2003 - I think you all know Honey quite well.
