5 Minute-Talk: Philippinen
The Philippines belong to the south east of Asia and they’re in the west Pacific Ocean. They are the 5th biggest island state in the world. There are almost 90 Million inhabitants, that’s more than in Germany. The official language in the Philippines is Tagalog and this is the language my mother speaks. But there is another main language called Cebuano. Altogether there are 171 languages spoken because almost every region speaks its own dialect or language. The men inhabitants are called Filipinos and the women Filipinas. The population’s religion is to 80% catholic and to 5% Muslim the rest are other belief directions.
The Philippines are 7.107 islands. But there live people on just 2.000, because the rest of the islands are too small or haven’t got the right conditions for life. The biggest islands there are Luzon, Mindanao, Samar, Negros, Mindoro, Panay and Palawan. The capital of the Philippines is called Manila; there are almost 12 Million people living. When it’s in Germany 12 o’clock then its 7o’clock in the morning there. That means that there is a time lag of 7 hours. From August till October there are often typhoons above the middle and north of the Philippines. Between 1945 and the year 2000, 349 typhoons crossed the Philippines.
There you pay with pisos and 1 € are 65.67 pisos. In school you have to wear a school uniform.
The poverty there is very huge and some children are just living on the street and have to provide themselves with food and water. There are many girls, who earn their money by prostitution. Others earn their money by collect rubbish and bring it to a recycling company or washing shoes of rich people.
In the Philippines you eat a lot of rice, fish and seafood but also pig. Some people eat dogs and goats as well. It is not allowed to marry someone and be divorced after some years because the people are very religious. If the government would notice that someone would be divorced in another country, then they would get a punishment.
