Who are the Beatles?
The Beatles are the world-wide most successful band!
From their beginning in 1960, until their dissolution in 1970 they changed the culture of pop music very much. They nearly broke every record of ticket sales and they have had an influence on a whole generation, not just because of their music but also because of their comments made to the politicians.
History
06.July 1957 was the first day that Paul McCartney and John Lennon saw each other. Maybe this was the beginning day of the Beatles. From this day on they played together in John Lennon’s band “Quarry men”. One year later Paul’s old school friend George Harrison also joined into the band.
After many different band names they agreed on the name “The Beatles” including the Band members, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Pete Best.
Brian Epstein discovered the band in1961 in a club in Liverpool, the hometown of the Beatles. They played a mix between Rock’n Roll and Skiffle, called Beat, what supplied the basis of today’s pop music.
Epstein replaced the drummer Pete Best by Ringo Starr and provided them with a new outfit, different haircuts, suits with ties and an elegant look.
The following years where shaped by a Beatles-mania. It’s called mania because of the outbreaks of enthusiasm and the tumultuous teenagers wherever the Beatles had an concert. Until today they have sold over 1 billion records. A few of their most successful songs are for example “Yesterday”, “All you need is Love”, “Let it Be”, “Yellow Submarine” and many more.
After their most successful years they experimented more and more with the music. They used classical and exotic instruments that were never used before in this kind of music.
The constant search for new instruments and musical trends is the reason for the historical importance of the Beatles.
The most important record of the band was “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” in 1967, which on the later following rock and pop music exerted a big influence.
At a press conference on the 10 of April 1970 Paul McCartney announce the separation of the Beatles.
For the fans of the Beatles it was a very bad and hard message.

Paul McCartney
He was born on the 18th of June 1942 in Liverpool, he was the band member with the best education. He wanted to be a teacher, but after his mother died in1956 he focused on music.
He played the Rhythm guitar and wrote most of the songs for the Beatles.
McCartney was married twice, all together he has 4 children today.
Today his ability is about 1 billion euro, so he’s said to be the richest musician of the world.
Ringo Starr
Ringo was born on the 7th of July 1940 in Liverpool.
He was the drummer and sometimes the singer of the band.
As a child he was always ill. Ringo and Paul McCartney are the Beatles who are still alive today.
George Harrison
He was born on the 25. February of 1943 in a little village next to Liverpool.
He visited the same primary school as John Lennon, but John was 3 classes above him.
In 1954, Harrison changed to the Liverpool institute, where Paul McCartney also went to school. They got to know each other when they realized that both were interested in music.
In 1958 George Harrison joined to the Band “Quarry Men” of John Lennon. He played the lead guitar.
In December 1999, George Harrison was attacked by a man in his castle. His wife saved Harrison’s life, she beat the attacker down.
George Harrison died by cancer on the 29th of November 2001, by cancer. He had been sick since 1997.
John Lennon
John Winston Lennon was born on the 9th of October 1940 in Liverpool. He grew up with his aunt and his uncle.
He had 2 wives and 2 sons.
On the 8th of December 1980 John Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman, a former fan of John Lennon.
On the same morning the murderer wanted an autograph of John Lennon.
Chapman waited in Lennon’s House until he came back, and killed him with many shots of a gun.
John Lennon died on the way to the hospital.
Until today there have been many concerts and other events for John Lennon.
Even a musical called “Lennon” started in New York in 2005. It shows the life of the musician and fotner-Beatle.
