The Empire State Building
The Empire State Building was one of the fist skyscraper in New York. And at first, I want to say some facts about it:
It was built in a record time of only 18 months. In The Empire State Building are 60.000 tons of steel, enough to build a double trail road from New York to Baltimore. 5.600 kilometers telephoncable 100 kilometers of water pipes, 73 elevators, 11 kilometers elevator shafts, when you are at the top of the Empire State Building sometimes the rain is red and can be seen falling up and at last the 381 meters. It was 40 years the biggest skyscraper in the world.
Just in 1973 the World Trade Center was bigger.
Now I tell a sad story about the big skyscraper. At a Saturday morning at the June in 1945 an airplane was flown into the house in the 79th floor. 14 people died.
At the first months the Empire State Building was empty.
That’s cause it wasn’t built in the best position, then the most rooms weren’t rent. So the owner of the Empire State Building hadn’t switch off the lights in the empty rooms. But the people noticed that it is empty.
So the nick name from The Empire State Building was The Empty State Building.
Now all the rooms are rent (the position is better now) and that’s too very cheap prices.
In the Empire State Building are living every day 10.000 people and 20.000 to 25.000 people work in it.
It is one of the world’s eight wonders (the only one built in the 20th Century). In 1993 the Empire State Building was sold by a new owner for 23 million €.
The Empire State Building is in the 350 Fifth Avenue between 33rd and 34th Street.
