Letter to the reader:
Dear reader,
I write points in the following texts and questions, I like and don´t like about the film, you are going to learn about the film and characters, but in the foreground there stands my opinion about the film. In some sections you will see that the film is not like others. It´s an inhumanly film but with a big influence and regard to humans and human life. In an unbelievable scenery is a story played about a journey which I describe exacter.
What was your first impression about the title/genre :
My first impression was that the title sounds interesting. If I heard “An unexpected journey” first I thought that must be an awesome adventure. I already have seen the trilogy: “Lord of the Rings” so out of it I knew that these films are unbelievable exciting. “The hobbit” also sounds interesting, because some creatures, not normal like humans, are so weird, funny and also fascinating. “The Hobbit” belongs to the fantasy film genre. I like those kinds of films and so I liked the film too.
What did you like best?
I have to admit, the beginning was a little bit boring and difficult to understand, because all at once there were more than 10 characters so it was not easy to remember, who´s who. I think one of the last scenes was the best. The scene in which the group of Dwarves were just about to lose the fight against their enemy. All of a sudden many big birds came to save them before they get killed. The big birds packed them with their claws and flew them to a forest glade, far away from the creatures, which were following them.
The scenery of the nature is also fascinating, it´s played in New Zealand, so I´ve already expected huge green grasslands and breath-taking mountains.
What did you find confusing?
I already mentioned that at the beginning it was not easy to follow. But at first I was confused why so many dwarves came to him and stayed there the whole night.
Later in the film, I realized that it was Gandalf´s fault. He draws a symbol on the door so everybody of the group came to Bilbo.
Do you have an un-answered question about the book/film?
Why does the dragon´s eye open at the end of the film? Is that an introduction for the next film?
Would you recommend the film to a friend?
Yes I would, but only if I knew that he likes the sort of films. If you don´t like it, I think it would be boring to watch the film without any interest.
Summary:
Bilbo Beutlin is a hobbit, who lives lonely but happily in his own house in the Shire. His life is wonderful and monotonic. The hobbit loves smoking on his pipe, telling old stories, playing cards and the nature. But one thing he can´t stand is adventures.
One day, a group of 13 dwarves visit him at his house, because Thorin Oakenshield tells them to ask Bilbo for help – they need a thief, Bilbo is small and fast. The dwarves explain why they need his help, they want to get the treasure back, which the dragon, named Smaug, stole from them a long time ago. It´s hide by the dragon in Erebor. First he does not agree but then he overcomes his fear and joins the group.
On the way to Erebor, a lot of amazing things happen in the mountains, like stone creatures fight against the others or awesome fights against some animals.
It turns out that Bilbo isn´t only a frighten man, he is a good warrior. The group have to fight and fight and fight with the hope to get the treasure.
At the end Bilbo steals the ring of the Gollum, which makes him invisible. (and mad, I know out of “lord of the rings”)
Bilbo Bagins:
He is a hobbit, who likes everything well organised, clean and tidy. An adventure means problems so normally he would not try it. He only wants to live day after day in the same order of tasks, without any complications. He is very hospitable and has many friends. But in the film you see that he has an adventurous side too. But he rather sits in his house smoking his pipe. His hole is very cosy, He is a hobbit, good to the nature, courageous and justice loving.
The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey, 169 minutes, USA 2012
Rating:
This movie is an adventure and fantastic movie, which is typical for its beautiful landscapes and horrible monsters, like the trilogy: “The lord of the Ring”(same director). The director of the film is Peter Jackson and it got no award but three nominations. The age limit is fourteen years and the music is played by Howard Shore. It´s set in New Zealand, Matamata, same like “The lord of the Rings”
The fantasy world of Middle-earth, which Tolkien created, is much based on the “real” world. Familiar human traits, both good and bad, can you see in the actions of the hobbits, elves, dwarves, goblins, wizards, and other more unusual inhabitants of this world.
Bilbo Baggins is in an epic quest to rescue the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Bilbo finds himself in a journey with 13 other dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield. It is a fantastic story and the narrative technique is in Bilbo´s point of view. They must survive many dangerous situations and monsters. It´s an open end because in the end, the dragon awakes and the story could go on.
It´s a film for people like fantasy. It contains many awesome moments. All in all it´s worth watching
