In this document, I talk about the film “The Hobbit”. The title is: “An unexpected journey”. The author of the book, which belongs to the film, is written by J.R.R Tolkien. The first film premiere was on December 13 2012. The director is Peter Jackson.
Letter to the reader:
In this document I am going to show you points, which I like and don´t like, you are going to learn about the film and characters, but in the foreground there stands my opinion about the film. In some sections you will see that the film is not like others. It´s an inhumanly film but with a big influence and regard to humans and human life. In an unbelievable scenery is a story played about a journey which I describe exacter.
What was your first impression about the title/genre.
My first impression was, it sounds interesting. If I hear “An unexpected journey” first I think that must be an awesome adventure. I already have seen the trilogy: “Lord of the Rings” so out of it I knew that this films are unbelievable exciting. “The hobbit” sounds also interesting, because some creatures, not normal like humans, are so weird, funny but also fascinating. I heard the genre is fantasy film, I like those kinds of films, so this are many points that make me find the film very good.
What did you like best?
I have to admit, the beginning was a little bit boring and difficult to understand, because all at once there were more than 10 characters so it was not easy to realize, who´s who. I think one of the
last scene was the best, the troupe of Dwarves were only a little time before losing against their enemy. All of a sudden many owls came to save them before they die. The owls packed them with their claws and brought the away, far away from the creatures, which are following them. The scenery of the nature is also fascinating, it´s played in New Zealand, so I´ve already expected huge green surfaces and breath-taking mountains.
What did you find confusing?
I already mentioned it, the beginning was not easy to understand. But at first I was confused why so many dwarves came to him and stayed there the whole night. Later in the film, I realized that it was Gandalf´s fault. He drew an symbol on the door so, everybody of the troupe came to Bilbo.
Do you have an un-answered question about the book/film?
Why is the dragon´s eye at the end of the film opened? Is that an introduction for the next film?
Would you recommend the film to a friend?
Yes I would, but only if I know that he likes the sort of fantasy films. Then if you don´t like, I think it must be boring to see the film without any interest in its act.
Summary:
Bilbo, a simple hobbit, is smoking his pipe one day when the wizard Gandalf appears and asks him to go on an adventure... He is confused and tells the wizard to come back the next day. The wizard does show up the next day, but only after thirteen dwarves have knocked at his door first. Long ago, a dragon named Smaug chased their forefathers from the mountain and stole their treasure. The group now wants Bilbo to come along as their thief. After a long time thinking about it, he agrees. Bilbo Baggins is swept into a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield
Thorin, the leader of the dwarves, sends Bilbo ahead to explore. There are three trolls eating meat around a fire. Bilbo tries to pick a pocket but is arrested by the trolls. Soon, all of the dwarves are captured by them. Everybody, without Gandalf. Gandalf returns and distract them, until the suns rises and the trolls turn to stone.
They enter the mountains. Their path is dangerous and it begins to rain very hard. They take shelter in a cave and fall asleep. Bilbo awakes and sees that the ponies are being stolen. They are all grabbed by goblins. In the hall of the goblins, Gandalf kills the chief goblin right before the dwarves are close to be killed. Bilbo is dropped in a deep hole and is knocked out in complete darkness. When he awakes, he finds a ring and wanders until he runs into a creature named Gollum. The creature thinks Bilbo stole his ring, so he runs out of the cave to find Bilbo, while Bilbo, who is invisible because of the ring, actually follows the Gollum out of the caves. When Bilbo reaches his friends, he doesn´t say a word about the ring.
After a short time they must escape giant wolves. They climb on trees until owls are saving them and they brought them far away. It was long ago so I could not remember the exactly end of the film. The finally scene is, Smaug opens his eyes, I think the troupe of 13 have an new enemy.
Bilbo Bagins:
He is a hobbit, who wants everything well ordered, clean and tidy. An adventure could make problems so normal he won´t try it. He only wants to live day for day, the same order of tasks, without any complications. He is very hospitable and has many friends. It emphasize that Bilbo could be adventurous if he wants to. But he rather likes sitting in his house smoking his pipe. His hole is very cosy and good natured like himself, there you could feel well. He is a courage’s and justice hobbit.

This movie is an adventure and fantasy movie, which is typical for its beautiful landscapes and horrible monsters,: “The lord of the Ring”. The director of the film is “Peter Jackson” and it got no award but 3 nominations. The age limit is fourteen years and the music is played by Howard Shore. It´s set in New Zealand, Matamata, same like Lord of the Rings.
The fantasy world of Middle-earth which Tolkien has created is based on the “real” world. Familiar human traits, both good and bad, can be seen by the hobbits, elves, dwarves, goblins, wizards, necromancers, dragons, and other more unusual inhabitants of this world.
Bilbo Baggins is in an epic quest to rescue the lost dwarf kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Bilbo finds himself in a journey with 13 other dwarves, led by, Thorin Oakenshield. In a fantastic story and narrative technique (in the view of Bilbo) they must survive many dangerous situations and monsters. It´s an open end because in the end, the dragon awakes and the story could go on.
It´s a film for whom who like that sort of fantasy. It contains many awesome moments. All in all it´s worth seeing.
